Just a link dump today as I was spent this evening listening to Dan Gillmor chat about his new book, Mediactive, at New America. Tomorrow may also bring only a link dump as I’ll be at Public Knowledge‘s World’s Fair Use Day and back at New America to hear Evgeny Morozov talk about his new book, The Net Delusion.

  1. Not to nitpick, but I don’t believe Microsoft is suing Apple over the App Store trademark; they filed a motion to ask the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to deny Apple the trademark. (But rather than take my word for it, here’s how other headlines are phrasing it, typically with verbs like “challenges”, “fights”, or “disputes”.)

    1. If I had paused for a few seconds, that would have occurred to me, that Microsoft doesn’t have a claim on the mark to begin with, that any action on their part would be a plea to the PTO about the term being too generic to trademark. I apologize for glossing over the story too quickly and appreciate the correction. I’ve updated the post to reflect the clarification.
