For those who use ad blocking extensions, a concern has been whether a browser has to download the ad to “block” it by simply refusing to render it. In Firefox, there has long been the ability for add ons to prevent ads identified by the domains from where they are loaded from even being downloaded, let alone shown. According to Slashdot, and others, Chrome quietly picked up the necessary functionality, apparently from its open source rendering engine WebKit, to reach parity with Firefox on this particular front. - Microsoft’s Iron languages released under Apache license
