I am a big fan of goosh, the Google Shell, for reasons that should be immediately obvious. Is it any wonder that I thought Google was speaking directly to me with this announcement from their open source blog?
Ever wanted to upload a folder full of photos to Picasa from a command prompt? We did, a lot, last summer. It made us want to say:
$ google picasa create –title “My album” ~/Photos/vacation/*.jpg
So we wrote a program to do that, and a whole lot more.
A whole lot more indeed. I nearly wept at the incantation that will create a new Google Document and open it in vim. Better yet, they are targeting inclusion of the tool in the standard Debian and Ubuntu repositories. Is it a coincidence that I am just now undertaking my great migration back to Linux, with Ubuntu being my distribution of choice? (I was also a long time hair shirt wearing Debian user.)
