During the personal computing revolution, the homebrew enthusiasts and entrepreneurs led the way. Cory posted a link on Boing Boing to an interview with Bre Pettis of Makerbot one of the folks leading the way towards accessible 3D printing.
To be more fair, Bre and his cohorts at Makerbot aren’t just building the hardware and basic software like their homebrew computing forebears. They are also helping grow the community and delivering some killer applications. And they aren’t stopping there, as the interview discusses, they are also working on 3D scanning and variations on the original printer. It is probably more fair to say they are leading the way on home 3D fabrication, not just printing.
