Senate Antitrust Hearing on Comcast-NBC Universal Merger

I was relieved to read this brief bit of news as reported by Cecilia Kang at the Washington Post. It looks like the Senate’s antitrust committee will be calling both companies’ respective chairs to the mat in the latter half of this month after Congress comes back into session.

Kang mentions a couple of possible agenda items, including the affect on the monthly subscription costs to consumers and what sounds to me like a narrow aspect of network neutrality, namely the potential impact on competitive purely online video distributors that would compete more directly with the merged entity.

I’ll definitely be following news from this hearing with interest.
