TCLP 2007-05-03 Inner Chapter: Vision (Comment Line 360-252-7284)

Not only do I have the customary Balticon (May 25th to 28th) reminder, but Paul Fischer sent me a promo. Not for the con, per se, but for its podcast, The Balticon Podcast. I have another treat, at the very end of the show, also thanks to Paul Fischer and another local friend, Phil RossiPod Aid covers First of May. And I chat for a bit about the last CopyNight. WARNING: some may find the subject of this song objectional, refers to sexual and adult situations.

The Hacker Word of the Week this week is chase pointers.

The feature this week is a new Inner Chapter on Vision.

  1. I enjoy the series and show itself, especially the item on vision. However I found the ‘treat’ in bad taste. Perhaps in retrospect you will see that that item was inappropriate to a show on computer topics. May I suggest you should have at least had a warning on its ‘adult’ nature.

  2. In retrospect, a warning was definitely warranted. I apologize for not including one. I definitely had a lapse in judgment not doing so.

However, I stand by my decision in including it. Despite the blue theme, it is a good example of the remix culture that I often discuss. Not only did Jonathan Coulton release the song in question, along with the rest of his works, under a CC license, but he also produced the karaoke version that was used by the project expressly with the intent of people remixing it. Part of the intent of the project was to help raise awareness for the Joe Murphy Memorial Fund.

I will re-tag that episode as adult, update the show notes and, if I get a chance, update the audio itself to add an appropriate warning.

  3. Thank you. I think my sense of humour failed me on that particular day; and I’m glad we agree about the warning. You are of course correct that the item is appropriate to your thread on remix culture. Keep up the good work.
