I wrote a little while back about AT&T lagging on their fiber rollout. This Ars Technica piece has more details on what’s really going on. Not surprisingly, when I think of fiber, I think of data first. The RBOCs, of course, are thinking of how to fend of the MSOs, first. So the description of their fiber rollout bogging down for reasons of disputes over the usual mandatory licensing that goes along with re-broadcasting over the air content and whatever other regulations might apply starts to make more sense of the slowdown.
I know what an RBoC is, but what’s a MSO?
Sorry, MSO is Multi-Service Operator and refers to the larger of the cable operators. And for those that don’t know what an RBOC is, here’s the Wikipedia entry for that term.
