The Command Line #62 – Listener Comment Line 360-252-7284

Hey, I have broadband, again! Yay!

Ahem, too late, though, to avoid recounting the latest travails in my recent DSL outage in this week’s intro. Also in the intro, I share some good news from my own career, I was recently promoted. Partially in celebration of the promotion, as well as in anticipation of traveling to DragonCon this weekend, I now have a new portable podcasting rig. Look for some new additions to the show and the feed as I play with my new toys.

And don’t forget that there will be no show next week since, as I mentioned, I’ll be at DragonCon.

The Hacker Word of the Week this week is shell.

In this week’s news, walkerh sent a story about the danger MS Visual SourceSafe rerpesents, a fascinating story about using the mathematics of shared secrets for safe and secure online storage, a good article of career choices for programmers, and MIT builds a very kewl tool for exploring the challenges of multi-core systems.

This weeks follow ups are confirmation that the US is indeed rolling out a limited number of RFID based electronic passports and the FTC forms a task force to look into network neutrality.

Sorry, I have no feature this week. Hopefully I’ll have some bonus content, soon, to make up for it. Also, don’t forgot to send in questions and suggestions. I am totally happy to do user request driven shows, if there are things you folks want to talk about.

Download the show in plain mp3 or enhanced formats.
