So I’ve noticed an unusual uptick in downloads for the last couple of days in my libsyn stats. At first, I thought it was just the last episode or two, but out of curiosity, I bounced down to the first couple of episodes and noticed spikes in the recent downloads for them, too.
A lot of my referral traffic comes from directories that publish newly released episodes on their front page, like iPodder and Odeo, so I thought maybe this was the case. First place I check, not really expecting anything, was the iTunes Music Store’s Podcast directory. Not surprisingly, I am nowhere near the top twenty.
But then I noticed the last spotlight genre on the page is Software Development. Hm. Again, not unusual, and I always look for the show there when I see the genre turn up. I’ve never been included, before, but today, low and behold, I am on the second page, all the way over there on the right.
I don’t know how they select spotlight shows. There are just about 100 in the same category, so I am only one of 12 that made it into the selection. If it’s based on listener stats, at all, thanks, guys, you rock. Even if it isn’t, thanks! And if it is editorial selection, then I am also flattered and thanks for out to whomever at the iTMS music store is responsible.
Excuse me while I levitate around the office for a while like a yogi on a triple espresso.
Update: Here’s a screenshot, before it goes away.
