Scott is one of the people that has tempered by pure hatred of Microsoft into something a bit more nuanced. He and Joel Spolsky have forced me to recognize that even inside Microsoft, there are some exceptionally talented and smart individuals. These folks should not be held personally accountable for the consistently Machiavellian machinations of Gates, Ballmer and upper management. Still, there is a frisson of vidictive glee in the experience of reading Scott’s switch story. Seriously, though, read it because he’s thoughtful and smart, trying to keeping the snickering to yourself. Really.
