Cleaning out my bookmarkable files didn’t really seem to help the problem. But I have noticed that only some files have exhibited the problems. The iPod definitely does not crash when listening to a plain old MP3 or AAC file.
Anecdotally, I noticed that some bookmarkable files from the same feeds cause my iPod to crash consistently. However, recently, newer files from those same feeds have not been causing the problem. I’m not holding my breath, but I actually have not had a crash in the last two or three days.
I have done some updates, recently, that may have individually or cumulatively improved the situation on my PowerBook. Of course, Tiger 10.4.1 came out a few weeks ago, as did iTunes 4.8. I think the iTunes update may be responsible for stabilizing the situation, since the problem may have been a corrupt or badly formatted file as created by the previous version of iTunes.
I just downloaded iPodderX 3.0 last night, but I don’t think that has anything to do with it.
As always, all I can do is wait and see if the problem resolves itself.
