This is a feature cast.
Listener feedback this week is from Katy, Natalie and James.
The hacker word of the week this week is core.
The feature this week is the first of a connected series of Inner Chapters, all dealing with the topic of programming paradigms. This first one is fairly dense with material aimed at refreshing experienced hackers and helping to orient the ones just getting started.

I talk about this month’s DC CopyNight that I attended last night. Also, a reminder to get questions in to me for consideration as part of my interview with Professor Lessig. I will be talking with him tentatively on November 7th.
I will be taking a vacation this coming week so I do not plan on releasing a show for either Sunday the 28th or Wednesday the 31st. The next show will be a news cast on November the 4th.
The hacker word of the week this week is Conway’s Law.
The feature this week is an Inner Chapter on will.

Happy Fair Use Day! I saw this both on Boing Boing and Ars Technica, the latter with some good information on the history of this third annual commemoration of our rights as consumers and users. Act if you can, but at least learn. Go to the Fair Use Network to educate yourself on your rights.
Carey sent in some more feedback, with some clarification on circuit and district courts based on my questions over the recent 6th and 9th circuit court rulings around privacy of email contents and addresses, respectively.
The hacker word of the week this week is COBOL. Legacy technology, like project estimates, is not what it seems.
The feature this week is a new Inner Chapter on the practice of estimation.
