GnuCash Builds!

1 June, 2005 (20:48) | Mac | By: cmdln

I updated Fink over the weekend, on a lark, and tried building GnuCash from CVS. Much to my pleasant surprise, everything built with no terminal failures. I’ve spotted one or two little rendering bugs, probably somewhere in the Gnome libraries, but otherwise the package runs 100%. I am so happy to have [...]

OSX Tips

1 June, 2005 (20:33) | Mac | By: cmdln

Saw this on digg. Despite the author self posting on digg, which makes me feel weird in the skull, there are a couple of good nuggets here. 1 and 2 are obvious, but 3 through 4 are good. I especially like 3, since I have a massive library and rarely browse it. [...]

iPodderX 3.0 1st Impressions

27 May, 2005 (11:35) | Mac | By: cmdln

Right off the bat, I have to say I really dig the new UI. Aside from the mere cosmetic changes, I like the augmentation with access to the full RSS feed. Many of the podcasts I subscribe to do not use a dedicated feed, so being able to see the rest of the [...]

iPod Progress

27 May, 2005 (11:24) | Mac | By: cmdln

Cleaning out my bookmarkable files didn’t really seem to help the problem. But I have noticed that only some files have exhibited the problems. The iPod definitely does not crash when listening to a plain old MP3 or AAC file.

iPod Woes = Solved?

15 May, 2005 (17:47) | Mac | By: cmdln

I went to the Apple store in the Mall, yesterday. I needed to run some other errands in the area, so figured I’d sign up for a slot at the Genius Bar and see if talking to a live tech might make a difference. The jury is still out on whether that is [...]

WWDC

11 May, 2005 (00:20) | Mac | By: cmdln

Oh, yeah, before I forget, I’ll be at WWDC. For the whole week. I’ll be on my own, so as busy as I’ll be with the sessions (I literally want to attend them all), I’m interested in meeting folks. Drop me a note and let me know if you’ll be there.

Better Days with Tiger

11 May, 2005 (00:12) | Mac | By: cmdln

I haven’t had any crashes since Monday, so I’m willing to chalk those up to being flukes. I am doing a better job of separating my beefs about GnuCash and Fink under Tiger from a genuine appreciation for the upgrade itself. A genuine upgrade of OS X, as opposed to an archive and [...]

iPod Woes

9 May, 2005 (22:10) | Mac | By: cmdln

You know, up until this week, I really, honestly haven’t had much cause for complaint with Apple. Quite the contrary. For instance, when I first received my new PowerBook, it had a faulty latch. Apple made the replacement as smooth as possible, basically only requiring a tracking number on the return before [...]

Tiger Crashes

9 May, 2005 (21:55) | Mac | By: cmdln

I have had the seed builds of Tiger on my PowerMac G5 at work since the beginning of the year. For all that these were betas of the operating system, my experience was that they were pretty stable. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, since I usually did a fresh install each time, [...]

GnuCash and Tiger, Day Two

9 May, 2005 (09:37) | Mac | By: cmdln

So my new PowerBook wasn’t as luckily configured as I had hoped. Fink could not compile oaf, no matter what I did. I suppose I could download the sources myself, but when I tried that route on my PowerMac, I just ended up wasting even more time.
