Fixed MP3 and Ogg Enclosures

11 September, 2008 (10:53) | General | By: cmdln

I goofed and in the updates to the MP3 and Ogg Vorbis feeds last night, I put the wrong URL for the enclosures. If you subscribe to either of these feeds, you may have been puzzled at hearing Sunday’s news show instead of the promised Beatnik Turtle interview.
I have corrected and re-published the feeds. [...]

Do We Need Another Short Range Wireless Spec?

9 September, 2008 (16:29) | General, Programming, Rant | By: cmdln

Slashdot has this story about a new consortium of tech companies mobilizing around a specification for wireless data transfer.
I understand that this is not the same as BlueTooth or WiFi and even in the abstract at Slashdot they mention the focus of the group on trying to better address the user experience around just sending [...]

First Version of Laconica Tools

8 August, 2008 (16:37) | General | By: cmdln

This is the first proper version of the plugin I’ve adopted/forked. It is has started to diverge considerable from the original plugin on which I started hacking. Hence the rename.
Enhancements include the ability to specify a different Laconica server, not just Identi.ca though that is the default. You can also toggle on [...]

Suggest a Link Form

7 August, 2008 (15:40) | General | By: cmdln

I have been using a suggestion form on Open Media Review for some time with good success. I figured it was past time that I set up a similar form for this site to allow folks another means of sending along stories of interest either for write up here or for discussion on the [...]

Update on the Ogg Feed

6 August, 2008 (17:00) | General | By: cmdln

The folks who volunteered to test the Ogg Vorbis feed and audio have been immensely helpful. The RSS seems to be working without a hitch across a wide variety of aggregators and the issues we are seeing in the audio files are not with the audio itself but quirks of the metadata.
I had a [...]

Possible Exercise Pill

31 July, 2008 (15:03) | General | By: cmdln

This story caught my eye because it immediately reminded me of Cory Doctorow’s wonderful short story, “0wnz0red”, published in his collection, A Place So Foreign and Eight More. I can never develop a good exercise habit because it always strikes me as to how pointless it is. That story is a wonderful, if [...]

Importance of Open MicroBlogging

25 July, 2008 (11:32) | General | By: cmdln

Pete Prodoehl, someone I encountered on Identi.ca, has a nice blog post on the importance of open microblogging that complements some of my thoughts from my piece yesterday on scripting Twitter and Identi.ca.

So what this means is, opening up the world of MicroBlogging to all… Having Twitter interact with identi.ca with your own server running [...]

Vigilance

4 July, 2008 (16:31) | General | By: cmdln

“The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.” — Thomas Jefferson
I am very fond of much of Jefferson’s writings. He is imminently quotable on a wide variety of subjects dear to me as well. This is a quotation to which I often return, especially today when we in the US commemorate the start of [...]

Saving CBC’s Search Engine Facebook Group

23 June, 2008 (12:17) | General | By: cmdln

If you want to show your support for the cancelled CBC Radio One program, Search Engine, and you have a Facebook account, you can join the group dedicated to saving it. Search Engine, among others, cited the outpouring of grass roots opposition to the tabled C-61 bill, the so called Canadian DMCA, in the [...]

CBC Dropping Search Engine as a Radio Program

20 June, 2008 (18:17) | General | By: cmdln

I am a huge fan of Search Engine, a CBC Radio One program, blog and podcast. I often joke that if I had a staff and a budget, it is the show I would produce. Well, maybe a bit more techie, but really I honestly admire the programming and the production.
I heard the [...]
