Looking Ahead to the Next GIMP

Ryan Paul has taken the pains to compile a bleeding edge version of the free software image editing tool, GIMP, so you don’t have to. He has a detailed write up of the two biggest changes at Ars.

I am hopeful that the new, optional single window mode he describes is indicative of the development team and the wider community undertaking some broader experimentation. GIMP has been criticized in some circles for being a “me too” application, tracking Photoshop perhaps a bit too faithfully. It would be very interesting to see GIMP move away from following anyone else’s footprints and just consider the need for powerful, useful image editing.
