Few things make me giggle as derangedly as The IT Crowd. My wife already concedes that there are some aspects of geek culture, like The Big Bang Theory, that I enjoy on a whole other level. The IT Crowd is another layer beyond that.

The story associated with it as as much fun. As Cory explains on Boing Boing, this is from an instructable on how to build the device in question. He also gives a good summary of the joke though I really encourage you to check out the episode in question. I envision any number of madcap scenes, for reals, employing this prop and the same gag.
