Another Wireless Encryption Scheme Cracked

Glyn Moody links to a piece on the H which discusses yet another 26C3 presentation of a break in a security system. This time it is DECT, a scheme used for cordless phones. According to the H, this is actually a follow up on a presentation from last year and work done in the intervening time.

Unlike the GSM crack presented at the same conference, the industry response here seems more constructive. An update to DECT is apparently already scheduled and the alliance behind the scheme is already working on an open system due to replace it. Their advice to consumers and whole attitude, as detailed in the final paragraph of the H article, is refreshingly practical.
