According to Wired that’s all that has been done so far, just acquiring root access on the phone though details have been published and should spread quickly amongst modders. The Wired article reminds us that while Android’s Linux roots may make this technically more straightforward than jail breaking an iPhone, end users should still be aware this may violate Motorola’s warranty and/or Verizon’s terms of service.
I hope that this exploit is also applicable to the Eris, the smaller version of the Droid that lacks the useless hardware keyboard. If I could get cyanogen’s mod on an Eris, that may be a temptation too strong to resist.
