This is news cast 116.

In the intro, an upcoming book review based on another offer of a review copy. Also, a quick review of my last fiction read, Mathematicians in Love by Rudy Rucker.

This week’s security alerts include VM based rootkits may be easily detectable after all and an undocumented bypass of PGP’s whole disk encryption.

In this week’s news, the first RIAA P2P lawsuit goes to trial before a jury and both progressives like Ed Felten weigh in as well as perfect control supporters, Professor Tim Wu launches a copyright education site for creators and a free search engine of court rulings and opinions, and a fascinating artificial evolution project for which I contacted the author and he shared his original inspiration.

Following up this week, GAO report on FCC’s rules enforcement and Lessig’s comments on the report. Professor Wu also talks about the legality of unlocking iPhones.
